A structured refresher on preventing, recognising and initially managing medical emergencies in dental practice — aligned to GDC expectations and Resuscitation Council (UK) guidance.

What you will be able to do

1. 1Apply GDC and Resuscitation Council (UK) requirements for emergencies, equipment and team training.
2. 2Use medical history and risk assessment to reduce the chance of an emergency occurring.
3. 3Identify emergency drugs and equipment, and when each is indicated.
4. 4Recognise common dental-practice emergencies (anaphylaxis, asthma, choking, syncope, hypoglycaemia, seizure, angina/MI, adrenal crisis).
5. 5Describe immediate first-line management for each of those emergencies.
6. 6Outline adult and paediatric BLS and safe AED use.
7. 7Explain team roles and why regular simulation training matters.
8. 8Document events correctly, including incident reporting and duty of candour.
